Tree Frogs Summer Camps

2018 Summer Nature Camps for Ages 5 - 7*

Winter will pass, the days will lengthen, the ice will melt in the pasture pond. The song sparrow will return and sing, the frogs will awake, the warm wind will blow again. All these sights and sounds and smells will be yours to enjoy, Wilbur—this lovely world, these precious days…
— E.B. White

Each of the four weeks of Tree Frogs Camp presents a new nature theme for your child to explore this summer. Sign-up for all four week-long sessions in the series or choose those that match  your child’s interests. We’ll be tracking, hiking, crafting, learning wilderness skills, and discovering more about our place in the web of life. Space is limited. Parent participation is welcomed but not required.

Week I - Animal Tracks!

JUNE 18 - JUNE  22, 2018

Ages: 5 - 7

Move like the animals move through games, stories, and tracking adventures on the land. We'll search for tracks and signs revealing where animals live and how they live, as predator or prey. Learn the secret language of the birds, who often alert us to the movement of predators. And, come to appreciate how every living being has a place in the web of life.

Week II - Into the Wild!

JULY 09 - JULY 13, 2018

Ages: 5 - 7

Get on the trail, each day visiting a favorite location at El Chorro Regional Park: creek spots, acorn grinding stones, climbing trees, Eagle Rock! Learn to navigate with the compass directions and make maps. Out on the land, we'll build forts and shelters and play games to identify natural resources.

Week III - Wildcraft!

JULY 16 - JULY 20, 2018

Ages: 5 - 7

Learn wilderness skills! Make fire by friction and cordage; identify wild edibles and native plants; practice knife safety and carving skills. Working with other wilderness skills, such as medicine making, basket weaving, working with bows and arrows, and creating plant dyes is possible, depending on the interests of the children. We'll play games, explore the land, then work on a new skill or craft to bring home.

Week IV - Nature Ninja!!

JULY 23 - JULY 27, 2018

Ages: 5 - 7

Challenge your senses with blindfold and awareness games. Learn to disappear with nature camouflage. Tune your "body radar" by going quiet inside and listening to what your body tells you. Move with stealth over the land, allowing yourself to get close to wildlife, or play the trickster with friends.
